Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri Binge or Bust? 1 Minute Review
This movie is loosely based on a true story about the Fulton family, in a small town of Vidor Texas, putting up Billboards demanding the police investigate the cold case murder of Kathy Page. The billboards highlighted the incompetence of police work and deeply affected McDonagh; he said that the image "stayed in my mind kept gnawing at me" and presumed that they were put up by the victim's mother.
That’s what this story is about. A hard nosed mom named Mildred Hayes confronts and indifferent system of law and order. Her fight for justice eventually becomes a fight with the law. This movie does an awesome job handling the themes of justice, inequality, family conflict, and redemption.
Initially the movie was hard for me to get into. I’m a slow movie kind of guy, but this one just didn’t have a thriving conflict up front. The performances of Frances Mcdormand and Sam Rockwell saved and made this movie. They absolutely “Crushed” their role and received well deserving academy award nods and awards. Sam Rockwell does a marvelous job building empathy for a crooked cop. His acting sucks the audience in and makes them care for this depraved individual.
BINGE! This movie had such solid performances I give it an 8 out of 10
