Prisoners: We're All Prisoners

The title tells us everything we need to know about the film. It’s a film that deals with captivity. And it makes us ask the question who is the prisoner of the film? Everyone is a prisoner, that’s why it’s called Prisoners (plural). Some are physically held captive by others, that’s obvious. Some are held captive mentally by their fears or their past, some are held captive by vices and substances. There are no heroes here, everyone is a prisoner in this film.

This theme of captivity is one that I think every human relates to. We’ve all felt imprisoned by doubtful thoughts or habits that we can’t seem to break. Whether someone agrees or not the Bible has a lot to say about captivity. Especially captivity to sin. Second Timothy 2:22-24 and Colossians 1:13 talk about being held spiritually captive and needing to be released, freed, saved.

It’s only appropriate that in a movie that deals with prisoners the theme of salvation and freedom coincides directly with the hope of the captive. Where there’s a prison, there’s need of a savior always.

Don’t miss this one and pay attention to its larger themes.
