Killers of the Flower Moon: The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

I saw this in a theater with ten 80 year olds, and I felt 80 after the film finished, and loved every minute of it.

What’s this movie about? The betrayal of trust. The book focuses on the third person perspective from the federal agent, but the movie POV is form Molly and Ernest’s relationship. Marriage is built on trust, but can Molly trust Ernest? Is he a loving shepherd or is he a wolf? That’s one of the questions of the film: what does a wolf look like? A wolf is a fitting theme, it’s a biblical theme. Often those who are labeled as false teachers and manipulators are “wolves in sheeps clothing” they come under the disguise of care but they want to destroy you. Jesus is the good shepherd who takes care of His sheep (John 10:10). Ernest’ on the other hand is more crooked than his teeth.

In this film Scorcese really aimed to honor the Osage culture. In the beginning frame we see the Osage burying their traditions and in the final frame we see them honoring their traditions. It’s a film of death and rebirth, it’s a film of rising from the ashes.  Though trust was broken and they became victims of a mass murder plot, they survived and thrived. God is good and films like this are a reminder of the only one we truly can trust.
