Train to Busan - Action Horror with Big Themes

If zombie movies have taught me anything, it’s the value of planes, trains, and automobiles.

The biggest theme that emerged was selfishness vs. Sacrifice. Some people live life looking out for themselves, while others consider the needs and interests greater than their own. The greatest villains embody selfishness while the greatest heroes embody sacrifice. It is laying down your life for others that is the greatest act of love for another human being.

Zombie moves tend to always have an “ark theme.” There’s always a vessel to deliver you from the horde outside. Or it’s a serum that ends the plague, or saves you from destruction. The goal is always the same: survive. The end is always the same: safety. But it’s how you get there that always differs.

In a spiritual sense we are all the walking dead (Ephesians 2:1-3). There’s only one cure and that’s salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Our vessel, our serum, our salvation is Christ (Ephesians 2:8-10), who was the greatest hero and laid down His life in the greatest act of love ever manifested (Ephesians 5:23-35).

In its most basic form, Train to Busan, is a thrill ride both in tension and emotion. Never have I cared so much about characters and relationships in the zombie apocalypse. I thoroughly enjoyed it! And will definitely watch again down the road. Thanks for the fun journey to both cast and crew.
